PCNHS CJs emerge winners despite COVID19

By Pearl Alenie R. Rodriguez, Grade 9-Ortega

Three campus journalists from Pasay City National High School (PCNHS) emerged winners from “e-Sulat mo!”: 2021 Pasay City Press Conference And Contest.

Last July 29, 2021, the Division of Schools of Pasay City held their first virtual schools press conference and contests. Amidst the ongoing community quarantine declared by the Philippine government due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Division of Pasay stood firm to deliver their advocacy on social consciousness and enhancing school learner’s journalistic competence thru healthy and friendly competitions.

To ensure the safety of students and teachers, the DSPC 2021 was held online. Each category shall have a separate meeting room via Google Meet App. Learners are instructed to encode and upload a photo of their output to the Google Drive that only the committee has access.

Among the victors who gave recognition to PCNHS are Dirk Daniel Escosa of Grade 8-Picasso, winning 1st Place in Paglalarawang Tudling; John Stephen Sampilingan from Grade 9-Obusan, achieving 1st Place in Editorial Cartooning; and Mary Joy Martirez of Grade 10-Hemingway, taking the 5th Place in Pagsulat ng Editoryal. The announcement of winners was also done virtually.

The placers, as well as the other student journalists who competed were vigorously and patiently trained and guided by Ms. Cyndelyn G. Ferriol and Mrs. Jhowanna Mariz Roc. Along with this is the full support of PCNHS’s dearest Principal, Mr. Sonny Adriano, together with the whole student body.

Even facing many adversities and challenges during these trying times, this proves that with hard-work and determination, Pasay City National High School, can still strive and continue to rise to the top!
